The population of 2007 is computed as 40% increase over the unknown population of 2006. In formulas, \(10,080 = (1+0.40)*x\), then x = 7200 adn quantity A is greater!

Let x = the population in 2006
So, 1.40x = the population in 2007
In other words: 1.40x = 10,080
Solve for x: x = 10,080/1.4 = 7200
We get:
Quantity A: 7200
Quantity B: 7,000
Answer: A
