328 on the first attempt (161V, 167Q) - how do I improve?

Hello GREPrepClub members,
I wrote the GRE yesterday (VQVQV) and got a 328 (161V/167Q). I will have to write it again, as Q < 170 makes grad school applications challenging in my area (finance).
I followed Gregmat's strategies for both verbal and quant, which worked like a charm whenever I could apply them correctly. I need advice on how to nail the GRE for good this time - I don't relish paying the $200 fee more than once.
I did not practice AWA at all and I performed poorly on the essays. I think the loss of confidence from there spilled over to the next section, which botched up my concentration and, subsequently my verbal score. I went through the Gregmat vocab list once and got overconfident that I knew more words than I think I ultimately did. My TC and SE accuracy was about 90% in the mocks, but I think on the real test I botched them up for some reason (mostly vocab). RC is a problem area, but I've been getting better slowly. Largely, I'm okay with my verbal skillset, as long as I am able to keep it above 160. Quant for some reason is proving to be challenging - I lost valuable time doing a lot of problems twice, not trusting my intuition and rechecking stupid things on the calculator, and consequently missed one problem in section 2. All my mocks land up with 18 or 19 out of 20, and somehow that 170 remains elusive.
What should I do differently this time? Another issue is, I've exhausted the OGs. Where do I prep from? Do I need to do more word lists (other than Gregmat's)? I'm planning to write it around January last week.
On a separate discussion, I am not confident that I can get through a PhD programme this time. If someone has an idea, could you please let me know if 328 is a competitive score for top 10 MS in Econ/MFin programmes worldwide?

Compliments for your score. believe me or not it is a great score. Look: we do have 167Q and 161V. yes the verbal could get any better. However, what is the time you do have for the next exam ?
The answer to your questions could be complex
we might start from what we know
1) if you take a look at the average score at the TOP BS https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/averag ... 27792.html we do know that your score is enough. It depends also where you want to go to study and if you really need a higher score verbal
2) The average score for the TOP MBA Schools usually is the same to get in into a PhD
3) Now tall what you can do to improve, regardless the fact we talk about quant or verbal the problems that drag you down to have a better score are:
silly mistakes you have solving the problem,
wrong approach that brings you in the wrong direction to solve
right approach and strategy but time-consuming and you conversely do not exploit shortcuts or do not see patterns
4) Vocabulary

Very important is the post root and prefixes: it will help you to recognize words even if you do not know the meaning or they are unknown to you
Moreover, it is crucial you understand the meaning, no matter what.
My challenge verbal question of the day contains in it questions VERY close to the real official question. I am sure of this and what I am saying

For RC also you can use the GMAT Rc passages which are basically the same. Also, I am posting daily tons of RC passages from Princeton which are quite good to practice.
It is not important to practice the hell of the question but the quality of the question. More, the strategy to tackle them is ALWAYS the same. Therefore, if you master them like a guru no matter what passage or questions you have to deal with, you will not have problem..
remember that the GRE uses strategies that are finite and it repeats itself as a test.
