Kudos for correct solution.


Here,

First 300 miles, Luke drives = 60m/hr

Therefore time taken = \(\frac{300}{60}\) = 5hrs

Total time taken for entire journey= 7 hrs

therefore she must complete the 200 miles in = 7 - 5 = 2hrs.

So the speed she needs to travel for 200 miles = \(\frac{200}{2}\) = 100 m/hr

Luke drives the first 300 miles of a trip at 60 miles an hour.
travel time = distance/speed
So, travel time = 300/60 = 5 hours

How fast does he have to drive, in miles per hour, on the final 200 miles of the trip if the total time of the trip is to equal 7 hours?
The FIRST part of the trip took 5 hours
So, for the TOTAL travel time to be 7 hours, the SECOND part of the trip must take 2 hours

So, Luke must complete the 200 miles in 2 hours
Speed = distance/time
So, Luke's speed must = 200/2 = 100 miles per hour

Answer: 100
