2x - 3y = -8
xy= 0
When xy = 0, either x is 0 or y is 0.
x = 0, 2x - 3y = -8, y = 8/3 (x = 0 and y = 8/3)
y= 0, 2x -3y = -8, x = -4 (x = -4 and y = 0)
In both situations y is bigger than x.
2x - 3y = -8
xy= 0

At first glance, this looks like it'll turn into an ugly quadratic equation. Since quadratic tend to give two possible answers, it's tempting to just answer D, and that would be a good guess, but it's not a guarantee, so it's safer to check. And this equation is a quadratic, but since xy = 0, it should be easy to deal with.
If xy = 0, we know that either x or y is 0. Let's try both and see what happens. If x = 0, then plugging that into the first equation gives us:
-3y = -8
So y = 8/3. Since x was 0, y is larger.
But let's check to see what happens if y = 0. Plugging that in to the second equation would give us:
2x = -8
So x = -4. Since y was 0, y is still larger. So in both cases, the answer is B. I know that the answer says it's A, but the answer appears to be a typo.
