It was thanks to the polymath or the vast and huge knowledge that a lecturer had in the academia that we had over the last centuries a literary quantum leap, a huge jump in discoveries in the most diverse fields of study

How can be minuscule advancements? it is exactly the contrary. Huge advancements.

I suggest reading very carefully what is the meaning of the sentence
