For the 3 numbers in a list, the average (arithmetic mean) and the median are equal to 8.

From this we can infer that the set is an equally spaced set and we are given that the greatest number is 10 greater than the least number so we can divide that into two equal intervals of five from which we get 8-5=3 and 8+5=13 as our answer.

For the 3 numbers in a list, the average (arithmetic mean) and the median are equal to 8. If the greatest number in the list is 10 greater than the least number, what is the greatest number in the list?

Enter your value.

Solution:

We can let the first number = a, the second number = median = 8, and the third number = a + 10. We can create the equation:

(a + 8 + a + 10)/3 = 8

2a + 18 = 24

2a = 6

a = 3

So, the largest number is 3 + 10 = 13.

Answer: 13
