Quantity A
Quantity B
The area of rectangular region ABCD
The area of trapezoidal region EFGH

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quandetermined fromr.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Solution:

We need to determine whether the area of rectangular region ABCD (Quantity A) is greater than the area of trapezoidal region EFGH.

Let’s start with the area of the rectangle:

Area = length x width

Area = 8 x 3 = 24

Next we can determine the area of the trapezoid:

Area = (base 1 + base 2)/2 x height

Area = (5 + 7)/2 x 4 = 6 x 4 = 24

Quantity A equals Quantity B.
