From 2 equations, solving for x and y gives, x= 21 and y =28.

x+14/y+14 = 35/42

=5/6

Solve the equations given

\(\frac{x}{y}=\frac{3}{4}\)

\(4x=3y\)

Second equations

\(\frac{x+7}{y+7}=\frac{4}{5}\)

\(5x+35=4y+28\) or \(5x-4y=-7\).

Solving these 2 equations we get x=21 and y=28.

So \(\frac{x+14}{y+14}=\frac{21+14}{28+14}=\frac{35}{42}=\frac{5}{6}\)

What about noticing a pattern? You can see that initially x/y equals to 3/4 then when it is x+7/y+7 equals to 4/5. Can't you just assume that it should increase to 5/6 based on the give pattern?

I do not think in this scenario a pattern could unfold.

You could go wrong.


However, if it works to reach a solution easier and faster, go for it. Why not :)
