Explanation

Terms in Quantity A:
\((x + 2)(x - 3) = x^2 - 3x + 2x - 6 = x^2 - x - 6\)

The two quantities are equal.

GIVEN:
QUANTITY A: (x + 2)(x - 3)
QUANTITY B: x² - x - 6

Use FOIL to expand and simplify Quantity A:
QUANTITY A: x² - x - 6
QUANTITY B: x² - x - 6

Answer: C

Given that the Quantity A is a multiplication of two linear equations, and Quantity B is a quadratic, and also that the multiplication of the constant terms in the linear factors gives me -6 which is present in Quantity B, there is a high probability that FOILing the linear factors will give me Quantity B, and that is something that I will attempt.

\((x + 2)(x - 3)\)

\(x^2 - 3x + 2x -6\)

\(x^2 - x - 6\)

Quantity A = Quantity B
