This question can be solved by elimination of choices,

From the box and whiskers plot,

We can say that, the least and the greatest values are -4 and 5, We can eliminate B and D.
There will be three quartiles, Q1, Q2 & Q3.
Q2 is the median of the set( vertical line inside the box) , the median of the set is -1.
we can eliminate "C".

Similarly, Q1 is the median of the lower half of the set( starting value of the box), Q3 is the median of the lower half of the set( ending value of the box).
For this set, Q1 is -3 and Q3 is 0.
choice E satisfies the above conditions.

The box plot (aka box-and-whisker plot) tells us that -4 is the SMALLEST value and 5 is the BIGGEST answer.
Only A and E meet this condition.
ELIMINATE B, C and D

Let's check A and E.

The median = (-2 + 0)/2 = -1. SAME as box plot.
The LESSER values are: –4, –4, –2

maybe it is me but the question has little sense to me.

My opinion is that it is really far from an ETS question.

Hi @GreenlightTestPrep, but why isn't c by the same logic an option? it has -4 as the smallest, 5 as the largest and -1 as its mean. Shouldn't C be the right answer?
