What is the area, in square inches, of the shaded triangle shown?

Based on Fig 2, few key observations before solving, CD = AB = FD = AF, So first find one of the side length and then use the Area of triangle to solve. Let BC = a, so in Triangle BCD, a^2 + 12^2 = (18-a)^2 this gives a = 5 Then 18-5 = 13, so the area of the triangle CDF = 1/2 * 13 * 12 = 78. Answer is B
