Doris and Edward both collect stamps. If Doris gives Edward [#permalink]
Expert Reply
step by step

Doris and Edward both collect stamps.

Ok they have stamps

If Doris gives Edward 72 stamps,

Doris gifted Edward of 72 of them

then Doris will have 4 times the number of stamps that Edward has.

Edward has x stamps and Doris 4x

If Doris gives Edward 129 stamps,

Doris cedes 129 stamps to Edward

then Doris will have 3 times the number of stamps that Edward has.

In the time laps is easy to understand that NOW Edward has a certain number of stamps NOT BEFORE

How many more stamps than Edward does Doris now have?
