Given that A telephone company charges X dollars for the first 3 minutes of a call and 50 cents for each additional minute, or fraction thereof. And If a 20 minute phone call costs $12.00, we need to find X
20 mins = 3 mins + 17 mins => Charge will be $X (for first 3 mins) + $0.5 * 17 (for 17 additional mins) = $X + $8.5 = $12 (given) => X = $12 - $8.5 = $3.5
So, Answer will be D Hope it helps!
