You have to pay attention when computing an increase by a certain percentage. In this case, the formula for the words in the question is

\((1+8.5)*8*10^3 = 9.5*8*10^3 = 76*10^3 = 7.6*10^4\)

Admin please you should eliminate the wrong explanations as they confuse the readers. Ranjeesh has corrected the answer, but yet the wrong one appears before Ranjeesh's answer

Admin please remove this answer.

(850/100) * 8*10^3 just calculates 850% of the given quantity. while the question is asking about which quantity is this much greater than the original one. So the correct answer is one that adds this increase to the original one. which is answer D
