Re: A positive integer when divided by 357 gives a remainder 37. By dividi [#permalink]
A positive integer when divided by 357 gives a remainder 37

Theory: Dividend = Divisor*Quotient + Remainder

Let the positive number be x

x -> Dividend
357 -> Divisor
a -> Quotient (Assume)
37 -> Remainders
=> x = 357*a + 37 = 357a + 37

y dividing the same number by 17, the remainder would be

x = 357a + 37 = 17*21a + 34 + 3 = 17*21a + 17*2 + 3 = 17*(21a + 2) + 3
=> x when divided by 17 gives 21a + 2 as quotient and 3 as remainder

So, Answer will be A
Hope it helps!
