Compound interest formula

Future value \(= $1*(1+0.05)* \dfrac{(1+0.05)^{30}-1}{0.05}=$69.76\)

Any suggestions on how to reach that number without using a scientific calculator?

Not reallly

you can work by estimation

\(= \dfrac{(1+0.05)^{30}-1}{0.05}\)

This portion can be estimated as 4-1=3 and over 0.05 is already 60

Then surely it will result > 65

This is the only way I do know
