A theory can always either be true or false. That is a fact given to us. It would always be valid. The evidence says that Ptolemy's theory is false due to Galileo's observations. Then it concludes by saying that since Ptolemy's and Copernican observations are inconsistent, C should be true.

Assumption is -- if one is false and something is inconsistent with it, it should be true : both can not be false

Search the options that look similar to this reasoning.
E is the closest match since it says- The Ptolemaic and Copernican theories, being inconsistent, cannot both be false.

Hence, answer is E
