An essential purpose of the criminal justice system is to enable purgation to take place;

2. The part is positive in tone because of the word “purgation”. The only choice that is positive in tone and similar in meaning to purgation is “catharsis”

3. The part of the sentence that is related to blank (ii) is this:

4. a community expresses its collective (ii) _____________ the transgression of the criminal.

5. The part is negative because of the word “transgression”. “Transgression” is an absolute negative word. So it has to be an absolute negative word that fills the blank which is “outrage”
