Dance is the quintessential ephemeral cultural artifact. No culture discovered to date has been entirely danceless, yet western notions of dance culture, both before and after the advent of film, have often been fraught with (i)_______, colonialism, and exoticism. 1. The first blank needs a word which goes along with colonialism and exoticism - both derogatory in meaning. Reverence is positive tone while aloofness is more or less neutral. "denigrate" does the job well.
2. The syllabus does something starting with primitivism to a higher stage of modern ballet. This denotes that the syllabus takes something from a "0" to a "1" or "2" in the increasing order. This means a positive connotation for what the syllabus does. Deconstruct will be more on the same level; excoriate is more negative. The only one which fits well is "promote"
3. The last blank requires something which fills the "modern" status. It cannot be atavism which will a reoccurrence of something. Vernacular does not capture the essence but "apotheosis" does.

hi carcass, for the second blank I was tied between deconstruct(decode) and promote.. I felt promote is quite stronger. felt academic syllabus to be neutral. I agree that the idea conveyed is moving from old to new its promote.. how to really practice elimination for these kind of subtlety.
