The salesman is attempting to give them false compliments in order to get the couple to buy a car, but his tactic isn't working. "Inveigle" means to flatter or charm someone into doing something and is the correct answer. "Support," "deliberate," "marginalize" (relegate to an unimportant position), and "hector" (to bully, torment) do not convey this same meaning.
