Hi folks,
I attended the webinar by ETS At-Home Testing Solutions - Your Questions Answered whose speaker was Eileen Tyson which is Executive Director, Global Clients Relations at ETS.
The webinar was quite interesting, explaining every aspect of the new version of the GRE General Exam. Nevertheless, the new way refers to the big news of these last few days and that see ETS the first comer (and perhaps the first advantage to the also coming GMAT at home) into what is for me a huge and massive deal: having the possibility to take the GRE exactly the same exam, with the same score, and the same validation to the Business Schools, like you were at a test center around the world....from the comfort zone of your house.
In my opinion, when then the news came our shortly before one week ago, it was groundbreaking.
Immediately, every forum, discussion, and blog about the exam started to figure out if the test at home was sensitive to cheating: possible hidden record software that would work in the background, hidden cameras inside the door fridge behind you......and many other conjectures from all over the places.
Well, I believe to disappoint you, saying that this, in my opinion, thanks to ProctorU is almost if not impossible.
After all, the ETS made great things coming toward the students in a specific area of the world heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, by April 24th 2020.
Starting today instead, the exam is offered around the globe but two countries
Quote:
As of April 2nd, 2020 the GRE General Test at home is now available everywhere that the computer-delivered GRE General Test is offered, with the exception of Mainland China and Iran.
At this page, you can find ALL the information you do need about the GRE at Home I have also attached to this discussion a PDF, containing the slides of the webinar
What interesting was the Q&A in the end of the same. They barely replied to 3 questions posed during the ongoing session. However, on-point was the question
Could a student who did wear a glass, having a hidden micro recording camera in his/her glass ??
The answer was pretty serious and peremptory: NO. It is a care of the proctor, who follows you for the entire span of the exam to unveil such cheating and non-compliant conduct. So why people instead of to exploit this huge, immense opportunity to give the test from home, they think how to cheat. I have a hard time figuring it out, frankly.
Therefore, the students who want take the GRE should focus on taking it without so many workarounds and nail it because of this windows of opportunity will be available only temporarily, until the global pandemic will be over. And we hope that very soon.

ETS is pleased to share several important updates regarding at home testing for the TOEFL iBT® test and GRE® General Test.
Increasing Momentum — Since introducing the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and the GRE General Test at home in late March, more than 18,000 test takers have registered to take either test from the safety of their homes in 116 countries and territories through the end of June. More than 2,000 have already tested successfully. We currently have sufficient capacity to meet test takers' needs but continue to recommend that prospective students register as soon as possible for the best chance to test at their preferred date and time.
Increasing Availability — The at home tests can now also be taken on a Mac® computer if Windows® is installed and the test taker is using a Google Chrome™ or Firefox® browser. More details can be found under the "Equipment and Environment Checklist" on the test taker web pages accessed using the links below.
Increasing Accessibility — ETS is committed to serving test takers with disabilities and health-related needs by providing services and reasonable accommodations that are appropriate given the purpose of the test. These accommodations can be requested in the test taker's ETS account: Extended time Extra breaks Screen magnification Selectable colors

GRE at Home Tests start Today!
Is anyone taking the GRE soon? Would love to get a perspective and feedback about the test. Let know if you are taking it within a week!
It seems it will take 10-15 days to get a score. Anyone know why it takes that long?
All notes must be taken on an erasable surface. (I was wondering about that). It seems photos will be shared with the schools. Make sure you look presentable when you take the test. Also, the whole experience will be recorded!

hi bb,
you can see yoru score right away. Its just the AWA score that takes 10-15 days along with score reporting to the schools.
Computer-delivered Test At the end of your test you will be asked if you want to Report (view) or Cancel your scores. If you select Report, you will view your unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores at the test center; however, because of the essay scoring process, you will not view your Analytical Writing score at that time. About 10–15 days after your test date, your official scores will be available in your ETS Account and sent to the score recipients you designated on test day."

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but if I have more than one handheld whiteboard (two), more than one color of whiteboard marker, and each of the handheld whiteboards is double sided, is that OK to use in the at-home test?

How many transparent sheet protectors are allowed for the at-home GRE? I have bought 50 and put white sheets of paper in them. Can I use 10 of them at a time? I don't want to waste time erasing if the requirement is only ONE sheet of transparent paper at a time.

Note-taking materials You may not take notes on regular paper, for security purposes. You may use one of the following: One small desktop white board with erasable marker One sheet of paper inside a transparent sheet protector, with an erasable marker At the end of the test, you will need to show the proctor that all notes have been erased.

@Carcass, Hi, I've few questions regarding taking GRE at home. I would be great if you can provide the answers.
1. Is it one time activity to show your screen from mobile and keep it away? Asking since I don't have portable mirror. And in rare scenario, I've read that proctor had changed and asked guy to take mobile and show screen in the middle and terminated his exam for no reason. . Saying that he got up from chair, while proctor himself asked him.
2. What happens when power goes off?
3 I've construction going on nearby. So, a little bit drilling sound will come sometime as house is not soundproof.
4. Also heard the stories where proctor asked girl to lower the camera as he suspect that something is under, but she was wearing one piece and he was just flirting as he asked again to keep camera breast, giving the excuse that her face is not visible unless she tilt it? Can we resist in such case? Asking since ETC doesn't respond and accept whatever proctoru says.
Taking at center isn't option as I don't want to take risk and it's more than 300 KM.

I do not know. The best advice I could give you is to have a room with a clean background: no refrigerator or else. Stuff like that. The mirror should be useful unless you do have a laptop or a camera you can move around to show that nothing is in there of suspicious
Quote:
Camera must be able to be moved to show a 360-degree view of the room, including your tabletop surface, before the test
2. What happens when power goes off?
The exam should restart from that point and a connection established once again
3 I've construction going on nearby. So, a little bit drilling sound will come sometime as house is not soundproof.
You should avoid this. Try it out
