Big Shake-Up: ETS Just Acquired ACT — What Could This Mean for the GRE?
On June 30, 2026, ETS (the company behind the GRE) announced it acquired ACT, merging the two largest US standardized-testing organizations into one. This follows earlier reports (Jan–Feb 2026) that ETS was exploring selling off the GRE and TOEFL to outside investors for a combined ~$500M. For GRE test-takers, this raises real questions: could we see pricing changes, test-center shifts, or a reshuffling of ETS's product priorities as it absorbs ACT's operations?

A widely-circulated admissions piece (updated September 17, 2026) argues the GRE is quietly regaining ground, especially for international and STEM programs, even as Columbia, USC, Berkeley, and UPenn stay GRE-optional. GMAT Just Rolled Out "Superscore" — Should the GRE Do the Same?
GMAC launched "GMAT Superscore" this summer (June 16, 2026), letting business-school applicants combine their best section scores across multiple sittings. GRE takers have long done something similar informally via ScoreSelect (picking which full test date to send), but there's no official cross-date section-blending like GMAT now offers.
With MBA programs increasingly flexible about which test they'll accept — per Clear Admit's late-August 2026 roundup of waiver policies (Stanford, Harvard, Wharton still no-waiver; Tepper, Booth, Johnson, Tuck offer waivers) — does GMAT's superscore give it an edge for applicants weighing GRE vs. GMAT? Would you want ETS to introduce a real GRE superscore?
