Thank you for the answer. In general, is 158 considered as a good score for quant? In my target schools, there is no such information. They only say that they are considering all applicants with all scores.

I googled and found that 80% ranges are from 158 to 165

For Engineering it is an OK score. It is better to apply when you are on the higher side of the spectrum. If its worth a shot then take it but since applications cost money most students prefer to go in with strong credentials.

GRE score is not everything but it is important.

Hi Nomad,

As Sandy mentioned, you may consider retaking your GRE to get a higher quant score. Have you researched the schools to which you plan to apply to determine whether your quant score falls within their score ranges?

If you do decide to retake your GRE, please reach back out, and I’d be happy to help.

Good luck!

Dear friends,

Today I passed my first GRE. I don't care about Verbal much, but my Quant score is 158. I want to apply to MSc in Data Science field (business analytics, data analytics etc.).

Is that a good score?

I think you should retake. Data science would demand very good quant scores even for mid tier colleges.. Check your target school requirementss if any and see if you make the cut.

But engineering in general would need good Quannt sores. 165+ would be a safe bet rest is your profile and applications packet.

I got it, thank you. But I am sooo tired of general tests :) First, almost one year on GMAT, and then again another one. GRE is very important, but, in your opinion, how much emphasis adcoms put to GRE? I think that my CV and work experience are good also.

I thought 158 was a fairly good score. Seeing comments make me anxious about my test results as I am also looking for MS in data analytics

It might be a sufficient score depending on your choice of college. However, if it is Ms in Data analytics I would recommend you retake. Data analytics is a very competitive field and quant scores are quite important in this case.
