If the six New England states were ranked by their percentage of the total population of New England in Year X and Year Y , for how many of those states would their rank for Year X be different than their rank for Year Y ?
A. None
B. One
C. Two
D. Three
E. Four
the answer is D.
but I discovered my wrong understanding came from that I understood we have to compare the percent multiplied by the population.
Most of my weaknesses in DI are not understanding the questions well.
So, May someone explain what would be the difference in question if it was the same I understand?
Next, how to improve my understanding to the questions of data intrep. questions ? Ironically, when I practice I got them all right but in the mocks I get them wrong.

Let me try helping you on this
Okay, so as we are not given what is the order we can arrange them in an increasing order.
Note: I will be using the first letter of the states to represent them.
Year X: V-Mn-N-R-C-Ms
Year Y:- V-N-R-Mn-C-Ms
The above are arranged in increasing order from lowest to highest, you can arrange them the other way round highest to lowest that wouldn't matter.
Back to the question, from the above, we see that there are three misplaced arrangements
Year X: Mn-N-R
Year Y:- N-R-Mn
Thus, the answer is D.

Look at how should look like. This way it is also useful for the other students. It is not only a question of aesthetic for the board but also for the efficienty of the same.
Now, looking at the bar chat in Year X the states are classified from the lowest bar to the highest, which also reflect the population, are
1) Vermont
2) N. Hampshire
3) Rhode Island
4) Maine
5) Connecticut
6) Massachusetts
In Year Y
We do have
1) Vermont
2) Maine
3) New Hamp
4) Rodhe Island
5) Connecticut
6) Massachusetts
As you can see only the red state in Year Y had a shift in the chart
The others do not.
therefore, we do have only 3 states. The answer is D
