In the diagram, \(\ell_1\) is parallel to \(\ell_2\). The measure of angle q is 40 degrees. What is the sum of the measures of the acute angles shown in the diagram?

A transversal passing through two parallel lines creates several equivalent angles.

In the diagram above, all 4 angles highlighted in purple are equal, and the remaining (unhighlighted) are also equal.
If angle q is 40 degrees, then angle q is an acute angle.
So the sum of the four acute angles in the diagram
= 40 + 40 + 40 + 40 = 160Answer: 160
