Simple Explanation :
Consider DG = R
From the Question "Each of the diameters of the small circles with centers B and F equals the radius of the medium-sized circle with center D. "
Hence
DE = R/2
FE = R/4
Area of shaded area = Post calculations 5/8iR^2
