Sketch the triangle and make the horizontal line the base.
The length of the base will equal the difference in x-coordinates: 5 - (-4) = 9
The height of the triangle will equal the difference in y-coordinates: (-3) - (-7) = 4
Area = (base)(height)/2
= (9)(4)/2
= 18
Answer: D

Ideally this questions is extremely easy after you plot a rough graph as shown in the previous answer
Area of a triangle = 0.5*base*height.
A hint in the question is the similar y coordinates for points 1, 2. This allows you to consider that plotting a rough graph would make things easier
