In issue essay
do we need to always follow this template-

1. Introduction
2. First argument for the side you take
3. Refute your first take and argue for the opposite side
4. Second argument for the side you take
5. Refute your take again and argue for the opposite side
6. Conclusion

or can we take one side and defend it with examples

I have edited the main post, fixing the second possible template for the Issue Essay.

In this latter, you can agree or disagree with the argument proposed to you and from here move further giving your reasoning.

Look at the guide at the bottom: ISSUE vs Argument the wrap-up

Hope this helps

Hi,

does the number in the template referring to paragraph that we should make?

Can we just make 1 paragraph that moderate our position? without refute every argument on each paragraph?

what is the best way?

New essay score percentiles released as of summer 2019. 6 on the essay remains the most difficult accomplishment on the GRE, but for most test takers a 4.0 remains a more than sufficient essay score.

Re: Shorter GRE AWA - All You Need to Know to Score 6 on the Issue Essay [#permalink]
So I am kinda confused about how to construct my issue when it comes to the style of claim and reason.
Take this one for example,

Claim: In any field — business, politics, education, government — those in power should step down after five years.

Reason: The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.

In my opinion, I first drafted my first main paragraph to disagree with the claim that not every field should step down after five years.
Then I concede that even though there are some fields that those in power stepping down after five years, there are other ways to sustain their success
Lastly, I admit that it is feasible to renew leadership for continuous success.

My fellow has another structure,
she agrees with the claim and uses her first and second paragraphs to support why the reason is true.
And then she uses her third paragraph to concede that it is possible that it will lead to a bad situation.

Are they both reasonable structures for the claim and reason style issue?
If it is not, could you guys give me some ideas about how to compose it?

Thanks!!!!

Hi @Carcass,
I read your guide and found it really useful. I have a question, in both essays we have to disagree right? specifically in Argument essay? we may agree, disagree or both in issue essay but in argument we are restricted to argue only?
