While the paragraph does discuss how student performance is measured, this information is not presented as a particular challenge that schools face; thus choice (D) is the best answer.

Choice (A) is not supported; although college attendance may seem like a useful measure of academic achievement, choice (A) provides no information about students from traditional schools for comparison.Choice (B) is likewise not supported: Although having a new standard might eventually allow relevant information to be gathered, the simple creation of such a standard would itself give no way to differentiate between students at the two types of schools.Choice (C) is supported because the author uses state performance standards to assess academic performance in the second paragraph.
