Let the capacity of Tank I be 3x and the capacity of Tank II be 4x. Since the pipe fills Tank I in 5 hours at a constant rate, the amount of water filled in one hour is 3x/5.
If the rate at which the pipe fills the tank is doubled, the amount of water filled in one hour becomes 2*(3x/5) = 6x/5.
To fill Tank II, the amount of water required is 4x. Using the formula:
time = (quantity of work) / (rate of work)
The time required to fill Tank II becomes:
time = (4x) / (6x/5) = 20/6 = 10/3 = 3 1/3 hours
Therefore, the answer is (C) 3 1/3 hours.
