Given that the average (arithmetic mean) age. in years, of 4 people is greater than 30 and less than 35. Of the 4 people, 1 person is older than 10 but younger than 15 years. 1 person is older than 20 but younger than 25 years, and 2 people are older than 25 years.
Quantity A: The age of the oldest of the 4 people
Minimum value of the age of the oldest person will be when age of other people is maximum
=> Max age of 1st person = 14 (older than 10 but younger than 15)
=> Max age of 2nd person = 24 (older than 20 but younger than 25)
=> Max age of 3rd person and 4th person should be equal in order to make the age of oldest person minimum. Let the age be x.
=> 14 + 24 + 2x = 4 * 31 (minimum of greater than 30 and less than 35)
=> x = 43
Maximum value of the age of the oldest person will be when age of other people is minimum
=> Min age of 1st person = 11 (older than 10 but younger than 15)
=> Min age of 2nd person = 21 (older than 20 but younger than 25)
=> Min age of 3rd person = 26 (older than 25)
=> Max age + 11 + 21 + 26 = 4 * 34 (minimum of greater than 30 and less than 35)
=> Max age = 78
Clearly, Quantity A can be greater than equal to or even less than Quantity B(50)
So, Answer will be D
