‘Meta-Analysis’ Finds GRE Is Losing Significance - 03/25/2023


A new “meta-analysis” published in The Journal of Higher Education suggests that the Graduate Record Examination is losing its significance.

“Overall, 61.6 percent of reported effects were nonsignificant (i.e. no predictive value of GRE scores on student outcomes),” the study found. “Further, the magnitude of observed predictive relationships decreased significantly over time.
Another concerning finding in the literature is the significant negative correlation that GRE scores can have with desired outcomes. For instance, Petersen et al. (2018) found that students with higher GRE scores were significantly more likely to depart graduate study before completing a degree.

Malpractice in GRE/TOEFL: Hyderabad police arrest four, including NIT student; two on the run - 02/11/2023
