As the moon orbits the earth at the speed of 2,200 miles per hour,
→ 2,200 miles travelled in 1 hour
Means to figure out the distance travelled in 30 days,
Let us figure out the time in hours.
As 1 day has 24 hours.
→ 30 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠 = 30 × 24 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠.
Using the concept of unitary method,
Distance travelled by the moon in 30 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑜𝑟 30 × 24 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠
= 2,200 × 30 × 24
= 1,584,000 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑠
Hence, approximately the distance covered by the moon in miles will be closest to
1,600,000 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑠.
