Chemistry Y
Not Chemistry X 10 180-Y
Total 180
The number of students who passed in Mathematics but not in Chemistry= Mathematics Only=X
Total number of students who passed in Chemistry= Y
From the table. we can solve equation;
X+10=180-Y
X+Y=170
It is given that X<Y----
Add x on both side of the inequality
X+X<Y+X
2X<X+Y
where X+Y=170
So, 2X<170
X<85 and hence Quantity B is greater.
Chemistry Y
Not Chemistry X 10 180-Y
Total 180
The number of students who passed in Mathematics but not in Chemistry= Mathematics Only=X
Total number of students who passed in Chemistry= Y
From the table. we can solve equation;
X+10=180-Y
X+Y=170

Total = T, Chemistry = C , Math's = M , both(chem & Math's) = B , Neither chem nor math's = N
T - N = Only M + Only C + B
180 - 10 = Only M + Only C + B
As we know C > Only M
170 = Only M + (> Only M) + B
170 = (> 2Only M) + B
170 = >2M (Total M = Only M + B )
85 => M
