In order to find journalist A's work, you must multiply rate by time: R x t = W= 3.5 articles per hour x 8 hours = 28 articles, journalist B must therefore copy edit 100 - 28 = 72 articles. To find journalist B's rate, simply plug 72 for Work into the work formula and solve for B's rate: R_B * 8 hours=72 so the rate is 9 articles hours

Or, the sum of their rates is the rate they need to copy edit all the articles. To find the rate they need to copy edit all the articles, do 100/8. So they need to copy edit all the articles at a rate of 12.5 articles per hour. Subtract 3.5 from this to get the rate of the second journalist.
