The passage is stating that Howard feels like his experience is unique, even though he apparently knows that it is not. "Facetious" means "foolish?' Howard does not seem to find his story foolish, because it is causing him much consternation. "Metaphorical" means "symbolic?' This situation is really happening to Howard, so it is not symbolic. "Cliche" means "overused?' This answer works. The first sentence implies that even though Howard feels like his situation is new, it might not be. "Cliche" opposes the word "new," so this is the correct answer. For the second blank, the passage is talking about all of the bad side effects Howard will face after signing his record contract. "Inconsequential" means "unimportant?' If what Howard was doing to the prices that his fans pay was "unimportant" then it would not be giving him so much pause. "Judicious" means "sensible?' If Howard was charging sensible prices to his fans then he would not be so concerned. "Appalling?' means "dreadful." Howard would feel bad if the prices he was charging to his "loyal fans" were "dreadful."
