Another way to think about is that it never states that either of them could NOT be 0. It simply states that they both cannot be 0, so set one of them equal to 0 and you quickly realize that the Quantity B is going to be 0 while quantity A will be an actual number greater than 0.

This question is more about algebra than probability, Since probability can't be > 1
we know number are in range 0-1
hence any number between 0 and 1 when multiplied by another number between 0 and 1 reduces in value so option A is correct.

p+s = P(A U B)+P(A and B) = P(A U B)+p*s.
Since we do not have both equal zero at the same time, P(A U B) >0. Therefore, p+s>p*S

The maximum of ps = 0.5*0.5 = 0.25.
