P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B).....(1)
since A and B are independent, then P(A and B)= P(A) * P(B)
Given,
P(A or B) = 8*P(A and B)
P(A) = 2*P(B) ; P(B) = P(A)/2
therefore,
8* P(A and B) = 8 (P(A) *P(A)/2) = 4 (P(A)^2)
substituting the given values into (1),
4(P(A)^2) = P(A) + P(A)/2 -P(A)^2)/2
4(P(A)^2) + P(A)^2/2 =3P(A)/2
9(P(A)^2)/2 = 3P(A)/2
Hence,
P(A) =1/3
