1) First let us find N's such that their squares lie in (55,555). Clearly N = {8,10,...,22} (lowest is 8^2 = 64, highest is 22^2 = 484), so N has 8 values and D is correct.
2) Now let's find the reverse, i.e. N is a square of an even integer such that N lies in (55,555). Clearly, it is the opposite of part (1), i.e. N = {8^2, 10^2, ... , 22^2} (because square of an even integer is even), hence N has 8 values and A is correct.
So, answers are A and D.

why is c not correct considering that 8 negative values of N are also possible
