This text is about plants and animals and their relationship, and ecologists study the interaction between organisms and their environment. There is nothing in the passage relating to codes and ciphers (what cryptologists study) or rocks and the composition of the earth (what geologists study).
The bees stay with a single flower, so the second blank needs to describe a relationship where you are with only one person - monogamous, not polygamous (a relationship between several people) or hypergamous (a relationship with someone of higher status or more wealth).
The passage claims that it is important for an ecosystem to have a larger number of species (in this case bee species), or biodiversity. Neither anathemas (despised or repugnant things) nor surfeit (an overabundance) make sense in this context.
