Some cynical to space travel have quipped that since the Earth has always felt bashful over its lack of rings, man has seen it fit to ______________ this omission: the accumulated detritus—derelict satellites, debris from manned spaced project, and diverse space junk—orbiting our planet, they feel, should make our planet feel a little less insecure.

Answer: (B)
'Quipped' indicates that those commenting on the Earth are being witty: Earth has never had rings, but man has so polluted the space right above Earth, that no Earth has a ring of junk orbiting it. In the same cheeky vain, the word 'redress', which means to make right, is used.
(A) is too neutral.
(C) implies that man has only thought about the omission. We need a word implying action.
(D) is more or less the opposite of the blank.
(E) does not work stylistically, because one cannot resolve an omission

The sentence suggests that some people jokingly claim that because the Earth doesn't have natural rings like Saturn, humans have created artificial rings made of space debris. The word needed for the blank should convey the idea of fixing or addressing this "omission."
Options:
Notice (A):
Meaning: To become aware of or acknowledge.
This doesn't fit the context as it doesn't imply addressing or correcting the omission.
Redress (B):
Meaning: To set right; to remedy or correct.
This fits well because it suggests that humans have "corrected" the Earth's lack of rings by creating artificial ones with space debris.
Speculate on (C & E):
Meaning: To form a theory or conjecture about a subject without firm evidence.
This doesn't fit the context as it doesn't imply taking action to address the omission.
Disregard (D):
Meaning: To ignore or pay no attention to.
This doesn't fit because it implies ignoring the omission, not addressing it.
Best Choice:
Redress (B) is the best fit because it implies that humans have remedied or made up for the Earth's lack of natural rings by creating artificial ones with space debris.
