Great question!
Start out by simplifying the equation you get
42.42*50 = (14*50 +m)*k
2121 = (700 +m)*k
Factors of 2121 = 3*7*101 => 707*3
so (700+m)*k can be write (700+7)*3
so m = 7 and k = 3 hence m+k = 10

42.42 = 42 + 0.42
=42 42/100 as mixed fraction or 42 21/50
3*14 = 42.
Hence k =3.
3*m = 21.
Hence m =7
On addind both we get 10.
