Professional sports is described as getting dirtier by the day and the players are described as anything but "participants who are there to play hard and fair". The last two lines alluding to wars and battle further make us choose fending gladiators over the other choices. The choice unattractive gargoyles seems to take the word "dirtier" literally, and clearly they are not mute observers since they are implied as playing hard but not fair.
The choice for the first blank "fending gladiators" and the allusions to war in the description of Formula One car races only make us choose vindicate this observation for the second blank. These words clearly reveal and do not mask the notion or obfuscate the idea that the journalistic ethics seems to have been relegated to the background.
For the last blank, the phrases "heir apparent" and "epic battle", confirm that the choice should be king of the arena.
The answer choices are A,F,G.
