Re: A novel by the deceased author Virginia Woolf that, in its m [#permalink]
(A) A portion of the manuscript material that editors omitted from the published novel is almost identical to material that Virginia Woolf published in a nonfiction book during her lifetime.
well this statement doesnt attack or damage the conclusion as we are discussing about novels alone

(B) Critics have argued that Virginia Woolfs writing style in the period during which she wrote this manuscript sometimes lacks conciseness.
well, if the publishers omitted some part of it then that means they are just strengthening her was of being conciseness

(C) An authentic novel is characterized by its author's decisions about what should be included in it and what sort of emphasis should be given to what is included.
this is the statement that attacks the conclusion. its the author's decision that make a novel having omitted content authentic, not the publishers.

(D) An authentic novel contains dialogue, characterization, and narrative structures that are recognizably like those found in the author's other major writings, if such writings exist.
....this is totally a different topic theres nothing in this statement that attacks the conclusion

(E) Not many of the novels that Virginia Woolf published during her lifetime contain as few as 70,000 words.
well that makes it authentic but we are focusing on what make the publication authentic

Carcass please check out my reasoning. if you can, find the flaws in this
thankyou

The claim that the published novel is authentically Virginia Woolf's would be most damaged if it turns out that an authentic novel is determined by the author's own decisions about what to include and what to emphasize.

(C) An authentic novel is characterized by its author's decisions about what should be included in it and what sort of emphasis should be given to what is included.

This is because, if authenticity depends on the author's own selection and emphasis, then the editors' choices to cut material and organize chapters undermine the authenticity, even if every retained word is Woolf's and chapters follow her order. The process would no longer reflect Woolf's artistic intentions, but a reconstructed version filtered through the editors' lens. Other options, such as the length or style, do not fundamentally attack the authenticity claim in the way that authorship of editorial decisions does.

Therefore your reasonoing is correct
