We know that both squares have sides of length 6 , so the area of each square is $\(6^2=36\)$.
The area of the triangle is half of one of the squares, so the area of the triangle must be $\(\frac{(6 \times 6)}{2}=18\)$. Then, to find the area of the shaded region, we take 18 plus the area of the shaded square to get $\(18+36=54\)$.
Column A is larger, since $\(36+18\)$ is greater than $\(36+16\)$.
The correct answer is (A).
