The GRE demands a fundamentally different skillset than your standard college math courses. While one may be comfortable writing proofs in real analysis or working through problem sets in linear algebra, the GRE operates on an entirely different playing field; it's built around pattern recognition, test-taking strategies, and performing under strict time pressure. The mathematical concepts themselves aren't necessarily harder, but the format requires a specific type of preparation that traditional coursework simply doesn't provide.
I initially tried GregMat, however, I quickly found that it didn't cover the foundational concepts in enough detail and it wasn't rigorous enough for someone coming from a math background. The explanations were a bit hand-wavy, and I was left filling in gaps on my own. In the end, this left me with a score of 157Q.
Funnily enough, I discovered TTP on reddit from a comment section on a post where GregMat praised their quant training and approach. TTP's approach was methodical and comprehensive, covering every concept from the ground up without assuming prior knowledge. The schedule builder was particularly valuable for keeping me on track. At the time, I was juggling a full-time job and taking graduate level courses at a nearby university, so having the structured plan eased my mind. Despite my significant workload, TTP kept me organized and accountable. I managed to finish the quant section in 5 months.
For test day prep, TTP's proven psychology tips helped me to shape my mindset for succeeding the exam. My target score was 165Q or above, which would put me in a competitive position for the programs I was targeting. With TTP's preparation, I managed to score exactly a 165 on the quantitative section. This result gave me the confidence to apply to any graduate program without my GRE score being a limiting factor in my applications.
A big thank you to Scott and the team at TTP!!
