Flimsy and Specious>>>>

Inadequate looks rudimentary to me...

The entire meaning of the sentence is this: tracing the whole stories for our ancestors from a single clue: the teeth, is not enough. It is inadequate, we should rely on more substantial clues.

Hope this helps

Carcass

What part in the sentence reflects the fact that it is inadequate? Or is it just the mind, or the clue is "you may wonder".

I don't understand the leap we are making towards the fact that this is inadequate

I have explained just above sir in case you missed https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/you-ma ... tml#p13511

However, this sentence is part of a passage where I assume the scenario is the following

You may wonder how the expert on fossil remains is able to trace descent through teeth, which seem _________ pegs upon which to hang whole ancestries.

You may wonder how it is possible that scholars are able to figure out the WHOLE story from a simple tooth - which apparently is a flimsy, weak, almost inconsistent clue we do have.

Well, you could be surprised by a new AI technology is able to do that when we use the right amount of data...and blah blah blah

I hope now is more clear

Thank you, I see your point clearly now.

You are right, however this could be subjective for some people taking the test. For instance, I was comparing it with carbon dating, which is an accurate (to give or take some years) measure of an age of a specie. So, coming up with an ancestry from a tooth would sound okay-ish to me.

But, I do understand and value your point of view though and it makes more sense.

The test is not subjective but objective.

You may wonder how scientists come up with clues from a tiny , insignificant, feeble, flimsy detail to the whole story. way much bigger

if you think about how from a simple and incomplete portion of DNA, the investigators can find a killer, the sentence above makes sense.

I am happy my explanation was useful
