The best way to crack this is to ignore the answer choices at first. Read the sentence and try to predict your own simple word for the blank based on the logic of the sentence. If you see words like "although" or "but", you know the context is shifting; if you see "and" or "moreover", it's staying the same. Once you have your own word, just find the synonym among the options. It stops the tricky vocabulary from messing with your head.
Practice identifying the logic first, and the vocabulary will follow. You've got this!
