Re: m = 120 % of n [#permalink]

This is a kind of question in which you have to do anything but observation. A closer inspection.

You can certainly manipulate the statement such as this way

\(m = \frac{6}{5} (or 120) * n\)

Substitute and you end up with \(\frac{5}{6} * \frac{6}{5} * n\). At this point you do have n.the what ?? you do not have any value for it.

Another way is looking at the stem \(m = 120% * n\) , but you do not have enough information to say N is negative or positive or a fraction along both signs.

At this point, you can stop and check D

Hope this helps.

PS: you are right after all

Wrong explanation. Quantity A is Bigger. 6/5 * n can be written as m. and 5/6 m is less than that of m. Quantity A is greater.

\(m = 120 % of n\)

Quantity A
Quantity B
\(\frac{6}{5}*n\)
\(\frac{5}{6}*m\)

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Given: m = 120 % of n
We can write: m = (120/100)n
Simplify: m = (6/5)n

Given:
Quantity A: (6/5)n
Quantity B: (5/6)m

Since we now know that m = (6/5)n, we can replace Quantity A with m to get:
Quantity A: m
Quantity B: (5/6)m

At this point, we can finish the question using matching operations

Multiply both sides by 6 to get:
Quantity A: 6m
Quantity B: 5m

Subtract 5m from both sides to get:
Quantity A: m
Quantity B: 0

If m is positive, then Quantity A is greater
If m is negative, then Quantity B is greater
If m is zero, then the quantities are equal

Answer: D

The question displays only m = 120, and not the percent part. Can someone please rectify to avoid confusion
