If we take sequence from 1 to 12. Odd sum = 36 and even sum = 42
If we take sequence from 2 to 13. Odd sum = 48 and even sum = 42
Even sum can be greater and smaller in two different cases

The numbers are x, x + 1, x + 2, ..., x + 11.
One set of numbers = x, x + 2, x + 4, x + 6, x + 8, x + 10 --> Sum = 6x + 30
The other set of numbers = x + 1, x + 3, x + 5, x + 7, x + 9, x + 11 --> Sum = 6x + 36
Obviously, 6x + 36 is greater. However, we do not know which set is that of even numbers and which one is that of odd numbers. Hence, it cannot be determined.
The answer is D.
